We may be one of the largest activity centres in the South East but we often hear people tell us it feels like a family business. Our customer service team have been working together for a long time and many of our clients have been coming to us from the start of the business over 20 years ago. Because we believe that children benefit from sharing their experience with adults (and vice versa) we encourage the family feel of the centre welcoming all ages to enjoy the site.

Our managers are all adventure activity professionals with long experience in the industry. They spend as much time on the ground with adventurers as they do in the office. So they get to hear what the adventurers like and can feed their ideas back. Our training and care of staff mirrors the attitude that we expect our team to show to our clients. We see people for everything they are and help them to become all they can be.

We understand that people learn in different ways, that’s why our instructors are trained in many different fields / teaching strategies. Our qualified and DBS cleared instructors acknowledge that everyone likes to be called by name and treated as an individual. They will ensure that all adventurers are engaged at a challenge level that is exciting enough but achievable. Our team understand that adventurers need someone to believe in them and push them a little while being there to help or encourage when required.

Andy White

Andy White is Head of Activities at Stubbers Adventure Centre and has been with the company 15 years.

Andy’s younger days were spent climbing trees, building camps and generally exploring the Kent countryside where he grew up. Early experiences in the outdoors on family trips and Scouts grew into a love for climbing and kayaking and Andy spent trips to the Mountains of Snowdonia, the Lake District and Scotland during his teenage years, both as part of a local climbing club and his schools Army cadet Force.

Completing his Kayak coach training after finishing school, Andy’s instructing career began with a season in North Wales working for a large adventure provider followed by 3 years at a Scout activity centre before finding Stubbers.

Andy lives in Upminster with his wife and 2 young boys. A keen musician growing up Andy has been involved in recording and gigging across the UK with various bands formed with friends from School and home (although less often now everyone has children!)

Amy Holdsworth

Amy Holdsworth is the Head of Customer Experience, she joined Stubbes in 2008 as a seasonal member of staff and loved it so much she never left.  Prior to working for Stubbers she spent time travelling to various locations around the world with adventure in mind and has many stories of climbing, cannoning, 4x4ing, scuba diving as well as getting up close and personal with the locals, walking lions, cuddling crocodiles and swimming with great white sharks to name a few.

Eventually she stopped in one place and lived in New Zealand for a while working on tour boats in the beautiful Bay of Islands, before returning home to the UK to be with family and friends.

As a multi qualified instructor in various water, climbing and motorsports, Amy still loves an adventure and will take any and every opportunity to do just that both here in the UK and abroad.

Julia Pomeroy

Julia is our Programming, Training & Recruitment Manager-it could well be her that you speak to when you ring up to book.  She has been at Stubbers since doing her work experience here in 1999.  So there is nothing she doesn’t know about Stubbers !   She thinks we have a great team at Stubbers and enjoys organising the parties and surprises for the staff (even instructors like a treat !). Julia is a keen amateur photographer (check out some of her photos on our walled garden wedding website).

Karen Patmore

Karen is our Finance Manager & has worked at Stubbers for 10 years. Occasionally she is allowed out of the office & enjoys helping set up & host the various cross country events held on site.

Her previous experience includes 15 years working in London in banking and stockbroking & also a number of years working for Havering Council in adult & children’s services.

Karen has always had a keen interest in sport which was passed on to her 2 sons who have both competed at National & International level in their chosen fields. Through them she somehow ended up as Chair for one of the local swimming clubs & was in position for 7 years before managing to escape! In any spare time Karen enjoys yoga, Pilates & swimming – anything to try & hold back the ravages of time!

Keren Wilcocks

Keren has just entered into his 10th year at Stubbers, and is currently enjoying his role in the development of the Adult & Corporate division, which allows him to hone his skills in facilitation and event management.  He navigated his way here along a varied career path including retail and care work, picking up some valuable life skills along the way.  It would be fair to say though, that he has found his calling in life.

A qualified Mountain Leader, Keren has enjoyed exploring much of the British uplands, though in more recent times he can be seen breaking out of the office and gliding down the lake on a Stand Up Paddleboard.

His newest challenge is attempting to master Fatherhood.  Though he claims years of experience working with children of all ages has not helped in the slightest!

Lauren is our Youth participation & SMASH manager at Stubbers Adventure Centre. Since June 2015 Lauren became an outdoor instructor where she has gained outdoor qualifications and found a love for the outdoor industry. Her motivation, love of sport, working with young people and knowledge makes Lauren the poster girl for our moto “Laying foundations for a positive future”

Being a qualified Paddler Anthony spends almost as much time being on the water as he does dry land! He is always up for a challenge and looking to improve his own and other people’s skills. Alongside his adventures and by far his biggest challenge is being a Father, which even he can admit his nappy changing skills need work.
