Havering to Take Part in Thames Water London Youth Games Regatta June 9th

Havering borough take part in the Thames Water London Youth Games Kayak and Slalom, today (June 9th) at the London Regatta Centre. We are all extremely excited at Stubbers as the teams have all trained on the site, and were put together by Lucy Ferrie ( Team Manager) and Coach Rebecca Neal.

We have been running open training sessions for the past seven weeks and are delighted that the children participating during that time have increased steadily. On March 23rd Kayak Slalom and Sprint trials took place

Lucy, Team Manager says: “This year we have tapped into all the children that go to our holiday activity scheme that runs through half terms and school holidays and put the word out to them about this opportunity. Thankfully lots of kids have turned up!

I am very pleased with my squad for the London Youth Games. They have all showed amazing commitment and you can see on their faces that they really enjoy being here.

“We want them to have fun and we have definitely achieved that. It would be nice to finish somewhere in the top half of the table and they have all come along leaps and bounds since week one.”

Paddlers that took part are between the ages of 9 and 17 with the final squad being chosen at the end of May. Two of the participants are James Bridgman age 15 from Coopers’ Company and Coborn School and Sheena Baggo, 13 from Emerson Park Academy.

Joe Bayle, Havering Borough Team Organiser expressed his delight that they will be able to enter into all categories at this years games for one of the first times.

Joe commented: “It is great that Stubbers have got on board to help us out and we are getting some good training sessions in leading up to the Games. We haven’t been able to do this in the past.

“We can now offer this experience out to as many kids as possible and give them an opportunity to compete. This is one of the first times that the kids will be competing amongst themselves to get a place in the squad and we will fill every possible spot.”

TOWIE filming at Stubbers Adventure Centre

TOWIE (The Only Way is Essex) characters Joey Essex, Frankie and Chloe have been filming today at Stubbers. We weren’t allowed to grab any exclusive pictures for our blog but look out for them in this Sunday’s (26th February 2012) episode!

The stars took part in Zip Wire, High Ropes and Grass Sledging, so there is sure to be a few giggles, tears and maybe a bit of screaming along the way!

It was great to have them on site and we hope they will come again one day soon for a bit of team building or maybe a bushcraft weekend?? ;)
