Save Our Stubbers – The Petition is Live!

You may have heard via our Facebook page, that Havering Council have put the land that Stubbers Adventure Centre is on up for sale to the highest bidder!

Stubbers Adventure Centre has been operating under charitable status for over 15 years. It supplies a valuable learning resource to local schools and families who would not otherwise have the opportunity of outdoor education in the area.

Stubbers has asked on numerous occasions to be given the opportunity of purchasing the freehold from Havering Council, to ensure the on-going availability of a proven and much loved resource.

We are therefore asking you to sign the petition to demonstrate the high regard in which Stubbers is held by the local community and to stress that to sell to the highest bidder regardless of their intentions, threatens the future of Stubbers as an outdoor centre in a world where so many irreplaceable assets have already been irrevocably disposed of.

It is our intention to ensure that Stubbers remains in the hands of Essex Boys and Girls Clubs, run as a not-for-profit outdoor centre and that securing its long term future will lead to long term investment to the benefit of the entire local community.

We need your help!

We have launched a “Save Our Stubbers” badge that you can put on your website with a link to this post and various other details to spread the word and SAVE OUR STUBBERS!

I am from Essex. I have Cerebral Palsy.
I used to work @ Stubbers Adventure Centre as a volunteer and Access Adviser so I worked with the centre management trying to make e centre more accessible. Having cerebral palsy I did no t think it would be at all possible to have worked in the outdoor pursuits industry but Stubbers gave me that chance. Some people might say it is the management that gave me the opportunity and they would probably be right but doing so I gained my Power Boat,JetSki and Quad bike licence’s despite my disability. Stubbers gave me that break and yes you would be correct but the point I am trying to make is Stubbers Is a fantastic community resource and should be looked on as not just an outdoor pursuits centre. STUBBERS IS AN EXPERIENCE especially for young people. I know this first hand as I am also a youth worker with a inclusive youth club and we have been attending Stubbers for approx 8 years and I can honestly say hand on heart that Stubbers transforms people’s lives in a way you can’t imagine, in their confidence ETC.

  • This should not be allowed, more house, a prison whatever next….what will there be for our young people to do soo………………….SAVE OUR STUBBERS!

This is a transforming resource not just for local children but for all those across the country who visit and benefit from it. It’s scandalous that it’s being flogged off to the highest bidder by a council that knows the price of everything and the value of nothing. Save Stubbers!
